Shadey Lane Corgis is an in-home breeding program dedicated to the thoughtful raising of exceptional Cardigan Welsh Corgis, with limited Pembroke Welsh Corgis as well. Our focus is on quality, temperament, and intentional development from the very first day of life.
All of our Cardigan puppies are whelped and raised in our home, where they are surrounded by daily structure, enrichment, and hands-on care. We place great emphasis on early neurological stimulation, careful socialization, and foundational training experiences that support confident, well-adjusted temperaments.
Our breeding program is built upon health-tested dogs and carefully selected bloodlines, including imported lines chosen to complement structure, temperament, and long-term soundness. This thoughtful approach allows us to produce Cardigans in a refined range of colors, including merle, brindle, tri, liver, pink/cream, and dilute, without compromising health or stability.
Puppies are raised alongside children, dogs of various sizes, and our gentle Maine Coon cat, helping them develop adaptability and ease in a variety of environments. Each puppy leaves our home with a strong foundation, prepared to transition smoothly into a life of companionship and purpose.

All dogs in our program are comprehensively health tested through Embark and/or Wisdom Panel. This genetic screening allows us to make informed, responsible breeding decisions while prioritizing long-term health, soundness, and temperament.
Health testing is an essential part of preserving the integrity of both the Cardigan Welsh Corgi and Pembroke Welsh Corgi. By identifying carriers and clear dogs, we are able to thoughtfully pair breeding dogs to reduce the risk of inherited disease and protect the future generations we produce.
Within our program, we screen for breed-relevant conditions including Degenerative Myelopathy (DM), Exercise-Induced Collapse (EIC), Von Willebrand Disease Type I (vWD1), Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA-rcd3), and additional genetic markers specific to Cardigans and Pembrokes. This careful approach ensures that every breeding is planned with both health and longevity in mind.

Corgis are celebrated for their loyalty, intelligence, and deeply affectionate nature, making them exceptional companions for a wide variety of households. Both Cardigan and Pembroke Welsh Corgis are devoted to their families and are typically wonderful with children. As true herding breeds, they do possess an instinct to “manage” movement—children included—making early obedience training an important and rewarding foundation.
Cardigan Welsh Corgis, the more ancient of the two breeds, are known for their thoughtful, steady temperament. They tend to be observant and discerning, often forming deep bonds with their families while remaining politely reserved with strangers. Cardigans enjoy purposeful activity and mental engagement, thriving with consistent routines, enrichment, and moderate daily exercise that keeps both mind and body balanced.
Pembroke Welsh Corgis are typically more outgoing and animated, bringing a confident, playful energy to their households. They thrive on interaction and benefit from regular activity, structured play, and opportunities to engage with their people. Their enthusiasm makes training enjoyable, particularly when paired with consistency and positive reinforcement.
Both breeds are highly social and adapt beautifully to active, engaged lifestyles. With proper training, thoughtful exercise, and early exposure to new environments, Cardigans and Pembrokes alike develop into confident, well-mannered companions who enjoy accompanying their owners wherever they are welcomed. We encourage safe, positive outings as part of raising corgis who are as balanced as they are beloved.
